<\/a>Mechansim playing its first record after being restored<\/p><\/div>\n
Even though the amplifier is not ready yet and even though the mechanism is not mounted inside the cabinet, I couldn’t help putting a record in\u00a0 and playing a song.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The mech had a few problem areas:<\/p>\n
<\/a>Rebuilt helix clutch and drive shaft.<\/p><\/div>\n
The clutch was frozen on the helix drive shaft.\u00a0 It was one of many cases of grime build-up and required complete overhaul.\u00a0 It’s working great now!<\/p>\n
<\/a>Play counter<\/p><\/div>\n
The play counter on the front of the mech had stopped working early in its life, just after 5400 plays.\u00a0 I suspect the jukebox has more than 20,000 plays.\u00a0\u00a0 I debated whether to fix the counter since it’s not required for operation of the jukebox.\u00a0 Once I determined that it could actually be fixed, I went ahead with it.\u00a0 Sometimes when something looks simple, it’s not.\u00a0 I spent two days just getting that damn counter to work!<\/p>\n
<\/a>A surprisingly colorful popularity meter.<\/p><\/div>\n
Like everything inside this jukebox, the popularity meter (red and green) was covered in so much grime and dirt, that I didn’t even know that it had different colors.\u00a0 The popularity meter counts how many times each song is played.\u00a0 This would tell the operator which songs were popular and which songs were duds.<\/p>\n
<\/a>Each sliding record tray was removed from the mech for cleaning<\/p><\/div>\n
<\/a>New reproduction decals<\/p><\/div>\n
New reproduction decals replaced the old peeling and cracked decals on the top plate of the mech.<\/p>\n
Other items not pictured that required work on the mech were rebuilding the motor coupling shaft, remove and overhauling the clutch on the main drive shaft, the latter of which was a major undertaking.<\/p>\n
Next up on the to do list is to start working on the electronics.\u00a0 As with everything, it needs a thorough cleaning first.<\/p>\n
