Up here at elevation 8300 feet, one doesn’t usually think of the crashing waves of an ocean.
Our winter windstorms have started, but the large reservoir on the east side of town hasn’t frozen yet.
The second snowfall of the season was deep and pretty. I live for those mornings that dawn bright and sunny after it snows. The snow glitters white and the sky a deep blue. It’s a blue that only is seen at high elevations.
I was up early and hiked to one of my favorite nearby hilltops. I’d live up on top of this if there was any way that I could. The hilltop doesn’t seem to have an official name and I’m still working on making up a name of my own.
Remember this from a previous post?
Well, as I was installing it, it broke. I fixed it again, then it broke again. Repeat 2 more times. The old wood was just too weak. So I took a piece of maple, cut and carved an entirely new one from scratch.
Time consuming, yes. This small piece is only about 5 inches long, but it’s been holding up progress on a lot of other things.
Another task that was holding up progress, and one I had been dreading, was installing the new mirrors on the front door. But Dave came and gave me a hand or two.
In the above photo, the door frame is not done being repaired, but it gives a good idea what it will look like when finished.
I’m happy to get these two obstacles behind me.
